What is National Kissing Day?

An annual celebration across the globe, National Kissing Day was first held 11 years ago today and is still enjoyed to this day. With Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and other social networks bursting with the hashtag #NationalKissingDay, this event encourages people to come together and share a kiss.

Whether a kiss of love or friendship, a goodbye kiss or even a snap of your child giving the dog a kiss, sharing posts and images is a beautiful way to spread happiness across the globe.

What’s the point?

Have you ever heard of National Kissing Day? The idea is to promote the meaningfulness of a simple kiss – it’s not about sharing random kisses with strangers on the bus. It encourages us to think about who is really important and to not take their love (and kisses!) for granted.

As Mae West once famously said, “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” Believe it or not, there is even an official website to celebrate the day at kissingday.co.uk!

If you don’t have anyone to pucker up with today, don’t worry, just avoid the hashtag and find a cute animal to kiss instead! And just to give you a little pre-warning, ‘International Kissing Day’ will take place in two weeks on Monday 6th July. Social networks will be once again adorned with pictures of people kissing. For those that feel sick at the sight of everyone puckering up, this is probably a good day to avoid social media networks!
